Officer Bird

God damn it. I'm literally losing my mind here and even Google couldn't assist me in my quest. When I was a little girl I really really remember this little blue parrot and he used to ride a flippin' bicycle and someone would say "What's the word, Officer Bird?" and he'd give a safety tip for the day. I could definitely be wrong here but it was more than likely on after Mr. Rogers or maybe Sesame Street. K. That's all. I guess I'm obsessing because no one remembers the good officer like I do. I'm counting on you, Maine.

"Bird, bird, bird, what is the word?"
"Bird, bird, bird, what is the word?" - and the bird would be pecking his head back and forth as if he was having a seizure or something - It's east coast too...

No recollection of that bird here, and I'm 32.

My parents never let me watch Mr. Rogers because they found him creepy.

I grew up in the tri-state and I remember Officer Bird! He was all around the US. He is an American phenomenon! I did a Goggle search for him this morning and found this blog. I live in Ireland now and have been singing the song to my fiancé as I can’t get it out of my head the last few days! America is great for things like Officer Bird! I think O.B. had a little jacket and a police hat and he rode that wee bicycle! At the end it was like, “now you know the word from officer bird”! What fun, how demented was our childhood!

I don't remember the theme song but I remember the cop saying,"Don't be a nerd- listen to Officer Bird!" and he'd right a bike or skateboard.

I remember this! infact when i was in elementary school on Long Island, we had a local police officer come with a bird claiming to be "officer bird". he did little motorcyle tricks and caught a bad hamster or something.

That's the word from officer bird, that's the word for today.

I too found this searching for Officer Bird. He would come on during commercial breaks in the afternoon during after school programming. I think it was KTLA Channel 5. And he always rode a bike.
